Who is Liz?

Elizabeth M Torrens, CPA, CA

Not your typical accountant.

So you decided to get to know me a bit better. That is awesome.
If you have been exploring my site at all, I hope you have discovered that while I can talk like a regular accountant, it is not my preference. Hold on ... here we go ...
Oh, and I like to be concise and specific (hence bullet points).
  1. I have been working in public practice since 2005; WOW I hadn't realized it had been that many years already! I articled in Edmonton with Hawkings Epp Dumont LLP (now Metrix Group LLP) and received by Chartered Accountant designation while working there. I worked there until my husband and I decided to move back to Saskatchewan, and back to my family farm, in 2011 in order to care for aging parents. (In 2014, CA's, CMA's and CGA's merged into Chartered Professional Accountants, so I am a CPA, CA now)
  2. Speaking of my husband ... he died in 2016, and so, I now am a single parent of our three children. They are a handful, and sometimes I'm not at work because, for me, parenting comes first and my work comes second. So there might be a delay when I need to return your calls or emails.
  3. When I started working in Saskatchewan in 2011, I ran the office out of our home on the farm. But with the death of my husband and the need to put food on the table and a roof over our heads, I took a big breath and built an office in Borden to work out of. And that's where you can find me now.
  4. When I'm not working I sometimes feel like the referee keep my children out of trouble and getting them to all their martial art classes on time. I am the primary care provider for my elderly father and I manage farming relationships with various neighbors who rent our land, or use our bins, or hunt our pastures. I am also part of the management team at our church and I am the Division 1 council member for the RM of Great Bend.
Life is busy. But this is a phase and life will slow down eventually. Thanks for getting to know me.
